Hillsboro is the Hill County seat on I-35, right where it splits into I-35E for Dallas and I-35W for Fort Worth. East of town is Blackland farm ground. West, the pasture rolls out toward Lake Whitney. Around Hillsboro we build pipe fence, pipe top rail, gates, and fence repair.
Building around Hillsboro
Hill County is farm country first. East of Hillsboro, the Blackland Prairie means deep black clay, row crops, and long straight county roads fenced on both sides. On a lot of places the field runs right to the fence, so the line is also where the tractor turns. Owners want posts that stay straight, gates wide enough for farm equipment, and no brace poking into the turn row.
That black clay is hard on fence. It swells wet, then shrinks and cracks dry, and a post set too shallow will heave or lean within a few seasons. Corners and gate posts get it worst. We check the soil and drainage first, then decide how deep the posts go and how the corners are braced.
West of town, toward Aquilla Lake and Lake Whitney, the country rolls more. You get more pasture, more cattle, and more trees on the creeks. The ground firms up in spots and turns rocky in others, so a fence can start in clay and end in limestone. That's figured in when it's priced on site.
Hillsboro is at the south end of the area we cover, so work here is fence we plan ahead: pipe, high fence, water gaps, gates, and repair. Send photos through the quote form or call 254-716-5760 and tell us about the line. If a neighbor down the road needs work too, say so. Two jobs on one trip makes planning easier for everybody.
What we build in Hillsboro
- Pipe fence
In the Blackland clay east of Hillsboro, pipe fence posts have to go deep enough that shrink and swell can't walk them out of line.
- Pipe top rail over wire
The cattle pasture west toward the lakes is good ground for pipe top rail over wire on long runs.
- Ranch gates & openers
When a gate drags in Hill County clay, the hinge post has usually moved. We set gate posts with that soil in mind.
- Fence repair & rebuilds
Black clay leans corners over time. A repair that resets and rebraces them can often save the rest of the line.
- Water gaps
West of Hillsboro, creeks running toward the lakes cross a lot of pasture fence. A water gap at every crossing keeps cattle in and gives the creek room to rise.

Permits and rules
We haven't checked Hillsboro's or Hill County's rules for this page. Inside city limits, ask the city about fence permits. Out in the county, ask Hill County. We'll build to what they require.

Will a pipe fence lean in the black clay around Hillsboro?
Not if the posts are set right for it. Clay that swells and shrinks moves shallow posts, so we decide depth and bracing after we've looked at your soil.
