Glen Rose is the Somervell County seat, where the Paluxy River runs into the Brazos and US-67 goes through town. It's hilly, rocky, cedar-thick country. Around Glen Rose we schedule pipe fence, ranch gates, and fence repair. Down here it's fence work only, and that covers high fence for game country and water gaps on the creeks.
Building around Glen Rose
Glen Rose is known for the dinosaur tracks in the Paluxy riverbed at Dinosaur Valley State Park. The limestone holding those tracks runs under a lot of the land around town, and it's the first thing we think about on a fence here. Ledge rock can be right at the surface on one side of a pasture and buried on the other. Cedar grows thick on the slopes and roots down into the cracks. That's part of why a line here takes longer to lay out than the same footage on open grass.
Hills, ledges, cedar brakes, river bottoms. The land changes fast. In a few hundred feet a line can cross a limestone shelf, drop into a draw, and climb back out. Setting posts in rock is slower than digging pasture dirt, and the layout often bends around a ledge instead of going through it. That's why every job is priced on site, after we've seen the line.
A lot of places here are ranch land or rural homes bought for the view. Owners want fence that suits the country: pipe across the front where people see it, pipe top rail over wire down the long sides, and an entry that looks right where the drive hits the road.
We come down TX-144 through Granbury, and Glen Rose trips cover every kind of fence we build, from pipe to high fence and water gaps, plus gates and repair. Send photos of the line and any rock showing at the surface, and we'll plan the day around the toughest stretch.
What we build in Glen Rose
- Pipe fence
On view lots near Glen Rose, a pipe fence across the front often bends around ledges so the posts land in workable ground.
- Pipe top rail over wire
The long sides on hilly Somervell County places suit pipe top rail over wire, stepped down where the slope gets steep.
- Ranch gates & openers
A pipe entry gate where the drive meets the road has to sit level, even when the ground beside it doesn't.
- Fence repair & rebuilds
High water on the Paluxy and Brazos can wipe out low runs of fence. Repair after a flood starts with finding which posts moved.
- High fence & game fence
The cedar hills around Glen Rose are deer country. High fence bends around ledges like any other line here, with taller corners set in rock.
- Water gaps
When a line drops into a Paluxy draw, it needs a water gap built to let floodwater and debris through, then close back up.
Permits and rules
We haven't looked up Glen Rose or Somervell County rules for this page. In town, ask the city if you need a fence permit. Out in the county, ask Somervell County. Then we'll build to what they require.
Glen Rose questions
Can you set fence posts in the rock around Glen Rose?
Yes. Rock takes longer and can change where the line goes. That's why every job is priced on site after we walk it.
Do you build entry gates on hill places near Glen Rose?
Yes. On a slope, the hinge post has to be set so the gate swings level and clears the ground. See ranch gates.
