Abilene is the west end of our map, out I-20 in Taylor County. It's open prairie and mesquite, places are spread out, and fence lines run long. This far out we keep to fence and plan each trip ahead: pipe fence, high fence and game fence, water gaps, ranch entry gates, and repair.
Building around Abilene
By Abilene the Cross Timbers are behind you. The land opens into the Rolling Plains: wide pasture, mesquite and prickly pear, red dirt, and a lot of sky. Wind matters out here, and so does dry ground. Post holes in hard, dry soil take more work, and a tall gate on a windy entry needs a solid hinge post and heavy hinges to stay square.
There's plenty of acreage around the city, off US-83, US-84, and the farm roads outside town, with ranch land further out in Taylor, Jones, and Callahan counties. Mesquite and prickly pear crowd a lot of old fence lines, so the first job is often finding where the line runs. Some of it is working cattle country with long runs of old wire. Some is newer homes on tracts outside the city, where the front needs to look finished.
We're based in Weatherford, so an Abilene job gets planned, not squeezed in. Send photos and a map pin through the quote form, or call 254-716-5760, and we'll talk through the line before we make the drive.
Entries matter out here. A good one sits back from the road so a truck and trailer can pull off, hangs on pipe posts set deep, and runs on solar where there's no power line close by. Where the entry crosses a bar ditch, we look at how runoff moves before we place the posts, so a summer storm doesn't undercut them.
What we build in Abilene
- Pipe fence
Newer homes on tracts outside Abilene often put pipe fence along the front, where the road sees it, and something simpler behind.
- Pipe top rail over wire
On long Taylor County lines, pipe top rail over wire doesn't catch the wind and doesn't sag between posts.
- Ranch gates & openers
Rural Abilene entries often have no power at the road, so a solar opener on a deep-set pipe post is the usual setup.
- Fence repair & rebuilds
Old wire on cedar posts is common out here. Sometimes a repair holds. When it won't, we'll tell you.
- High fence & game fence
On open Taylor County ground, high fence for deer or exotics stands in the wind its whole length, so the corner and brace posts carry the job.

Permits and rules
We haven't checked Abilene's fence and building rules for this page. Inside city limits, start with the City of Abilene. Out in Taylor County, ask the county. We'll build to what they require.
Abilene questions
Is Abilene really in your service area?
Yes, our area runs from Fort Worth west to Abilene. Out here we make planned trips for fence work: pipe, high fence, water gaps, gates, and repair. Send photos and we'll go over the line first.
Can a pipe fence hold up to the wind around Abilene?
A pipe or pipe top rail fence doesn't catch wind like a solid fence. What counts is the posts: set deep enough for the soil and braced at the corners and gates. We look at the ground before we price it.
What kind of gate opener works on an Abilene entry with no power?
Solar, where the power line is a long way off. The panel and battery run the opener, but the gate still has to hang level on a deep-set hinge post, or the opener fights it every cycle. We check the entry, the slope, and where the panel gets sun before we set anything.
